Melbourne to Dublin

This was probably one of the worst day(s) of my life. Flying and I do not get along. Landing makes me feel like I’m going to puke… And today I had to land not once, not twice but three times.

It was only the night before I was due to fly that I realised some very important terminology.

Direct flight: A direct flight in the aviationindustry is any flight between two points by an airline with no change in flight numbers, which may include a stop at an intermediate point. The stop over may either be to get new passengers (or allow some to disembark) or a mere technical stop over (i.e., for refuelling)

Yes indeed. The Emirates flight was going Melbourne- Kuala Lumpur- Dubai- Dublin. The pdf of the itinerary omitted KL and instead had the words ‘direct’.

There are not many pictures of the journey. Was too zoned out and nauseous.

Shower in Dubai

Shower info from their website

Had a 3 hour connection in Dubai so took a shower. Was in gate B and the shower & toilets were the first lot from disembarkment. This meant the line was massive to get in.

It was clean and once you get though the line, not many people are actually wanting to take a shower.
In theory it seemed like a good idea to use the hard dryer to dry my towel however it took a while to dry and me clean face became sweaty again from the heat.

Where i sat zoned out for the remainder of my dubai transit

SIM card
Being the anxious person I am about getting lost, had intended to get a SIM card at the airport. Outside terminal 2, there was a convenience store which sold sims (the name of the store escapes me). Upon inspection however, they appeared to be more for international calling than mobile data. This was confirmed by the man at the cashier. He suggested to get one in Dublin city centre instead.

Walked through the outdoor under covered walkway to terminal 1 to meet A (he was travelling on Ryan air from Birmingham). Outside terminal 1, there was a sim local store however it was closed. Gah!

There was free wifi at the airport though, so just saved the Google offline map for later use.

Met A and he took the lead from there. Missed the first bus as didn’t have coins to pay onboard. Payed with notes at the pay station.

The end.

Well sorta- went to bed 12am and it’s now 3:15am. Jet lagged and hungry.
